Lesson: Understanding the World

Class: Class 1 Year: 2018 - 2019

Class 1 have enjoyed exploring the meaning of Chinese New Year last week and showed great enthusiasm when learning about the Chinese culture.

We have looked at how the Chinese celebrate and found out the reason why each year is named after a different animal. This year was the year of the pig therefore we had lots of piggy themes activities including; piggy pastries and pIg lanterns. We have also enjoyed writing our first initial in Chinese, making dragon puppets, building the Great Wall of China, learning numbers to ten in mandarin and finishing off with a delicious Chinese tasting session. All the children tried noodles, egg fried rice, prawn crackers, sweet and sour sauce and spring rolls.

The children performed a beautiful Chinese dance using scarves which was a great success.
