The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
When entering/creating our own competitions we do so with the School Games Values at heart. These include:
This year we have entered a wide range of competitive events that include:
Withing the sports above we have entered mixed teams, girls only and SEND specific events. We are commited to offering inclusive competition for all pupils regardless of SEND, Race or Gender.
For a school of our size, this list of participation and achievements in them is absolutely incredible and we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible.
We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community. We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most either as a participant, leader, official or volunteer.
Our Sports leaders in Year 6 have conducted two playground events each dinner time all year. We have a rota where Year 5 and 6 Pupils choose a sporting activity to lead for all other pupils to engage with. This has been our most successfull year, with 100% of the school having access to sport at dinner times all year round.
Our Sports ambassadors have also been conducting a Crawford Champions competition during afternoon play, where they have been challenging pupils to run quicker, throw further and jump higher and further than they ever have before. They have been updating the champions league weekly and announcing results in assembly.
A special thanks to:
All the staff for their time and effort to deliver a diverse and inclusive curriculum as well as giving up their time to take children to competitions.
I'd also like to thank all of the parents who have helped along the way, supporting your children and for also giving up your time to help with transport when needed.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfill criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year by being awarded the coveted Platinum Award!!
We are so thrilled with this result and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
